Free Professional Development for Contemporary Dance Artists

Movement Under Development (MUD) is collaboration between Eventual Dance Company and MIDDAY Movement Series.

Are you a choreographer looking to deepen your voice, expand your tools, and build your creative practice in community?

You are in the right place!

Eventual Dance Company and MIDDAY Movement Series are thrilled to announce

Caitlin Canty (Eventual Dance Company), Marissa Molinar (MIDDAY Movement Series), and Daniel McCusker (MUD mentor, Boston-based choreographer, dancer, current Professor at Boston Conservatory at Berklee, and Senior Lecturer Emeritus at Tufts University) are thrilled to announce MUD: a new professional development opportunity for contemporary dance artists in Greater Boston.

ABOUT MUD:

Selected MUD artists will meet bi-weekly for extended studio time, to practice generating and composing movement material in community and under the mentorship of a seasoned professional. MUD is geared specifically toward practicing the art of creating movement, growing your toolkit as a movement artist, and exposing yourself to new methods. It is open to choreographers of all kinds and levels in their career who are working in or with contemporary dance. Dance artists should NOT come in with existing ideas that they are expecting to be able to workshop. Rather, the cohort will generate new material through responding to prompts and problems, to practice the craft of choreographing in community, without the pressure of creating a finalized product.

From January - May 2023, MUD artists will meet bi-weekly at The Cultural Equity Incubator in Boston, MA with Daniel McCusker (Boston-based choreographer, dancer, current Professor at Boston Conservatory at Berklee, and Senior Lecturer Emeritus at Tufts University). While there will be some informal showings throughout the program, the point of the showings is to practice moving with an audience and receiving feedback, rather than producing or presenting a final product. Please note, there will be options for artists outside of the MUD cohort to share dance works-in-progress at these showings as well. If you are seeking a One Night Only work-in-progress opportunity, please refrain from applying in this application. We will release those applications at a later date.

MUD COHORT ELIGIBILITY:

MUD is open to dance artists working in contemporary forms ages 18+ + +. Preference will be given to those who are not currently pursuing a degree at an academic institution. However, current students are still eligible to apply. Artists from across New England (MA, NH, VT, CT, RI, ME) are welcome to apply, pending your ability to participate in this in-person Boston based programming. Preference will be given to those working in Metro Boston.
